A safety-first, family-friendly lesson built around young surfers — from first splash to first stand-up.

Kids don't need a scaled-down adult lesson, they need a different one. We keep young surfers in the gentlest, shallowest whitewater on the Nelayan/Berawa stretch of Canggu — away from the bigger peaks further down the beach — on junior-sized soft-top boards that are easier for a smaller body to balance on and much safer to fall off.
Instructor-to-child ratio stays low, usually one coach per one or two kids, so nobody is left standing around waiting for attention. The pace includes regular breaks for water, shade and snacks — the goal is a child who finishes tired and grinning, not overheated or bored.
Parents are always welcome to stay right on the sand and watch, or to join in as a family semi-private lesson if you'd rather be in the water together. Either way, the coaching style stays patient and playful — more games and encouragement than technical correction at this age.
Every part of the format is adjusted for a young surfer, not just a shorter version of the adult lesson.
Sized for smaller bodies, easier to balance on and safer to fall off than an adult board.
Usually one coach per one or two kids, so attention never gets split too thin.
We keep kids out of the bigger peaks and in the gentlest sections of the Canggu beach break.
More encouragement and games than technical correction — kept fun first, technique second.
Water, shade and snack breaks scheduled through the 2-hour block instead of nonstop paddling.
Parents can watch from the sand or join in as a semi-private family lesson.
Share your child's age and how comfortable they are in water when you message us on WhatsApp.
On the day, we keep the group in the calmest, shallowest whitewater available that tide.
Games, encouragement and plenty of rest stops across the 2-hour block, paced to the child.
Most families book semi-private (parent + child, or siblings) or private for one-on-one attention.
Prices in Rupiah, each format booked as a 2-hour block.
Families who've booked a kids or family surf lesson with us in Canggu.
“Booked a semi-private for me and my two kids (9 and 11) expecting a struggle and instead both of them were standing up by the second wave. The instructor kept it playful the whole time, never pushy, and checked in with us constantly about tiredness and sun.”
“Was staying in Berawa for a month and did three group sessions here — you can tell the coaches actually live and surf this stretch, they read the sandbanks better than any school I've used elsewhere in Bali.”
“Private lesson turned into a proper coaching session — footage review, tips on my paddle timing, the works. Worth every rupiah for how fast it moved my surfing along.”
What parents usually ask before booking a surf lesson for their child.
We generally start from age 6, provided the child is comfortable in water above their waist and can follow simple instructions. Every younger case is judged individually on WhatsApp — tell us the child's age and swim confidence and we'll be honest about whether it's a good fit yet.
No, not unless you want to. Most parents watch from the sand while the instructor works one-on-one or two-on-one with the kids in the shallow whitewater. If you'd rather join in, we can run it as a family semi-private instead.
Completely common, and it's exactly why we keep kids lessons in the gentlest Nelayan/Berawa whitewater rather than a punchier break. The first 15-20 minutes are just getting comfortable standing in ankle-to-knee-deep water with the instructor before a board is even involved.
Yes — junior-sized soft-top boards that are easier for a smaller body to balance on and far safer to fall off than an adult board. We size the board to the child, not the other way around.
The booking is a 2-hour block, but the lesson is paced with breaks for snacks, water and shade built in — it isn't 2 hours of continuous paddling. Most kids are tired but happy by the end, not overwhelmed.
Usually yes, as a semi-private — the instructor splits attention between them and adjusts the pace so the younger one isn't rushed and the older one isn't bored. If the age gap is large, we sometimes recommend two separate instructors instead; ask us when you book.
